Paper is a sweet little Toshiba Satellite Pro 445CDX laptop. It's been around since April, 1998, when I bought it for $1100. Paper was intended to just be a cheap laptop, but it's a very nice machine. Could use some more memory, though. It's currently languishing unused now that I have Silk.
Paper has been blessed by Saint Ignucious of the Church of Emacs! (Yep, RMS himself.)
There used to be an old PS/2 on kitenet that was named paper. It's been retired, but you can see it's web page here.
