You know I think you must be some kind of stupid moron or something. If you are so unhappy why do you stay with their services? And one more if you really want a dedicated connection, get a dedicated connection! Don't rely on this ignorant phone company we have here to provide it through a dialup line. Remember, this is the backwoods of TN we are talking about here, not a major metropolis like Boston or Washington or the like.
I have to respond to this: I haven't left preferred because I signed up for a one year contract with them to get a reduced fee. When the contract expires, I may not leave them, because if I switch to a different ISP, I'll have to pay about $500 extra in setup fees. But most importantly, I have a theory: all ISP's suck. So I'm just sticking with one that sucks in a fairly consistent manner.

I set up a PPP server on a machine at school.ETSU's campus network is totally screwed-up. Who ever is running it has no clue. It is easely the worst campus network I've ever seen.
But, after connecting up my linux box, using an old, first generation 28.8 modem with no compression and little error correction, I find that it is much faster to go through this some what slow modem and campus's awefull network than to use preferred's crappy service.
Unfortunatly its long distance from here.
